Distant Comfort

Their is real individuality in the ways that young people decorate their bedrooms. Being a student, everything you own is often confined to this room. Young people use this space as a canvas for self expression and it’s also somewhere that a young person can escape to. Distant Comfort is a series that examines the ways in which students express themselves through the objects and arrangements of their bedrooms; this is a place that is open to experimentation and freedom. From photographs to tapestries and posters, everything is a form of self expression.

Girls seem to have more of a desire to create a comfortable and protected environment by decorating and organising the objects in their bedrooms in particular ways, so this is why the series looks only at females. It explores the ways that students find comfort within their personal spaces in the things with which they surround themselves.
